Taco catering in Chinatown: local tips

Chinatown is about 1 mile east of City of Westminster, in Greater London. From the centre of Chinatown to the outskirts, Mexican catering works the same way: a truck or trailer at your event, options for every diet and a clear price. We cover 764 places across Greater London, from the larger towns to small villages.

Before you pencil in St Anne's Churchyard, find out who manages it: driving a truck onto parkland and selling food there both need their agreement. Nearby historic houses include Benjamin Franklin House (less than half a mile south-east) and Burlington House (less than half a mile south-west). Estates and historic houses tend to set their own rules for caterers, so find out what yours allows first.

Here we cover the W1F, W1D and W1T postcode area, and we can cater your event anywhere in it with access for the truck or trailer. Streets in the area include Duck Lane, Drury Lane and Bruton Lane, and an event on any of them can work if the truck or trailer can park nearby. With the A4 and A301 close by, Chinatown is simple for us to get to with the truck or trailer for your event. Other places close to Chinatown for Mexican catering include Soho (1 mile north), St James's (1 mile south), West End (1 mile north-east), Seven Dials (1 mile north-east) and St Giles (1 mile north-east). Larger places within reach include Kensington (3 miles west), Shoreditch (3 miles north-east), Walthamstow (7 miles north-east), Hoxton (3 miles north-east), Whitechapel (3 miles east) and Hampstead (4 miles north-west).

Other landmarks nearby include St James Workhouse (within half a mile north-west) and Leverian collection (under half a mile south-east). Green spaces nearby include Barnsbury Wood and St. James's Park Lake.

  • Schools near Chinatown include LITE Regal International School (0.6 miles west) and Harris Westminster Sixth Form (0.8 miles south)
  • Nearby, you will find Waxy O'Connor's pub (within half a mile south-west)
  • Parks and local facilities nearby include London Library (less than half a mile south-west) and Westminster St James (less than half a mile south-west)

Mexican catering in Chinatown, served fresh

Few things get guests chatting like a build-your-own taco bar. Guests fill their own tortillas from the fillings, salsas and toppings, so nobody ends up with something they don’t want. Popular choices include burrito bowls, loaded nachos and burritos, and it suits office lunches and team days and wedding breakfasts and evening food.

In Chinatown, a courtyard, a venue forecourt or a garden with drive access can work well. London gardens are often reached only through the house, so the truck or trailer may need to stay on a drive or the street, with permission. Send us a photo of the access. Your quote sets out what’s included: the menu, the service time and any extras you choose.

What affects the price in Chinatown

Contact us for a quote, and the price is based on:

  • Guest numbers
  • Timings and hours
  • Distance and access to the venue
  • Whether you add a drinks bar or food

Cost depends on guest numbers, the menu and the length of service, along with extras and where your event is. We quote for each event individually.

What to tell us

To speed things up, tell us:

  • Roughly how many adults and children
  • How we drive in and where we can park
  • The address or venue name
  • Your date and when you want service to start

Not sure what you need yet? That’s fine: give us the basics about your event, and we’ll suggest a menu. When you’re ready, send us your details through our quote form.

Dietary needs and planning tips

Good planning keeps every guest safe and happy. Here’s how:

  • Have a covered area ready in case of rain
  • Put guests with severe allergies in touch with us early
  • Let us know about any other food at the event
  • Confirm allergies by email before the event

If timings change on the day, tell us and we’ll adjust.

Quesadillas go down well with children, because they’re simple.

Common questions in Chinatown

We’re having a ceremony at St Anne's Church: can you cater afterwards?

Yes. The church itself isn’t where we’d set up, but a hall, field or garden close by with room for the truck or trailer can work well. Let us know the reception address and we’ll check the access.

Which station should guests use for Chinatown?

Chinatown has its own station: Tottenham Court Road station.

Do you come to Chinatown?

We do. Chinatown is one of the places we cover. Send us your date to check availability.

How much is a food truck for an event?

We quote for each event, so the price fits what you want. Give us your date, numbers and menu ideas and we will reply with a quote.

Where do you cater?

London and South East England: Greater London, Kent and Medway, Surrey, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, including Chinatown.

What about power on site?

Let us know what’s available on site, for instance a supply from the venue, and we will confirm the arrangements with your quote.

What food do you serve?

We agree the menu with each client, with fillings such as chicken tinga, carnitas or black beans. The sample menu shows the options.

How is the food prepared?

Food is cooked to order in our food truck or trailer, or served from a build-your-own taco bar. Slow-cooked fillings are prepared in advance and kept hot on site.

Planning the serving area

We will be honest if a space won’t work, and help find another spot. What matters most:

  • Some distance from houses and neighbours
  • A clear area in front of the hatch for a queue
  • Level, firm ground or hardstanding for the truck or trailer

As a London location, Chinatown is inside the ULEZ, and parking and loading take planning: let us know about permits, bays, off-street space or a parking suspension.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we’ll advise.

DIY taco night or a caterer?

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up in the kitchen. Booking a caterer means you can relax with everyone else.

A DIY taco night is possible for a crowd, but it’s more work than it looks. There are fillings to slow-cook, tortillas to keep warm and salsas to make. Our taco bar guide explains how.

Why choose Mexican catering in Chinatown?

A cold buffet is simple but tends to sit out for hours. Our food is served hot, one order at a time. Comparing caterers? Look at what each quote includes: serving hours, staff, disposables, travel and VAT. Our quote sets out what’s included.

What we offer in Chinatown

  • Every guest catered for, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan included
  • Allergen information for everything we serve
  • Access, space and power checked in advance
  • A quote that sets out what’s included

The process

On the day, we park the truck or trailer in the agreed spot and set up. We’re ready to serve at the agreed time, so everything runs to your schedule. Evenings in Chinatown stay light until about 9:20pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:05pm. For anything running past sunset, think about lights near the hatch.

  1. Start by telling us about your event.
  2. We suggest fillings and extras and send a quote.
  3. We agree access, the serving spot, power and water.
  4. On the day we park up, set up and serve hot food to order.
  5. Once service ends, we clear away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Have a marquee or gazebo ready in case of rain
  • Get the venue’s permission for us to park and serve
  • Have level hardstanding or firm ground ready

How to get a price
